Rattle Gourd- Beaded Handle

$250.00

Handcrafted Gourd Rattle with Beadwork

This Dance Rattle features a real Bell Gourd and a beautifully beaded handle decorated with Peyote Stitch designs. The crafter used a sturdy wood dowel for the handle and attached an 11/0 cut‑bead peyote stitched tube with a feather design in periwinkle, light green, black, brown, white, and red near the base. 8.5 inches of twisted fringe hangs from the bottom of the handle.  At the top, the crafter added another 1.25‑inch Peyote Stitch band in light green, periwinkle, black, red, and yellow. Turquoise feathers rise from the top of the gourd, giving the rattle a vibrant, finished look.

The Rattle measures 22.5″ long  including the Twisted Fringe and the feathers on top.  The Peyote Stitch beadwork sections measure 3.25″ long, and 1.25″ long.

One of a Kind!

Gourd rattles have deep roots across Indigenous cultures of the Americas. Makers dried and hollowed natural gourds to create instruments used in ceremony, dance, healing, and social gatherings. They filled the gourds with seeds, stones, or beads to produce a strong rhythmic sound and attached wooden handles. Over generations, artists developed regional styles with painted designs, beadwork, feathers, and carved details that expressed identity and artistry. Today, gourd rattles remain important as functional instruments and cultural objects that carry tradition and craftsmanship forward.
