Canoe Cup Hand Carved

This hand-carved canoe cup showcases the richly grained burl of a tree, blending nature’s artistry with time-honored craftsmanship. Its rounded bottom and flowing contours echo the movement of water. You can add your own leather lacing in the two small holes in the handle —ideal for hanging the cup from a belt or pack during travel.  Rugged yet refined, this vessel carries the spirit of the wilderness in every curve. Living History Re-enactors often choose these cups as authentic drinking companions that honor tradition and utility alike. This Canoe Cup Hand Carved measures  10″ in length, and the cup part measures 6″.

One of a Kind.

Native American artisans and early fur traders carved canoe cups from tree burls, embedding cultural meaning and practical design into each piece. Indigenous paddlers first used these compact wooden vessels to scoop water straight from lakes and rivers. French-Canadian voyageurs later adopted the same practice, staying seated in their canoes while drinking. Travelers laced them to their belts with leather and often added carved toggles for easy access and personal flair. These cups didn’t just serve a purpose—they told a story. Their enduring form reflects generations of craftsmanship, resilience, and a deep connection to the waterways that shaped North America’s early trade routes.
