Nootka baskets (also called Nuu-chah-nulth baskets) are beautiful, handcrafted items made by the Nuu-chah-nulth people. These people come from the Pacific Northwest Coast of Canada, particularly Vancouver Island. Crafters make these baskets using materials like Red cedar bark, Bear grass and Spruce roots. The baskets are known for their tight weave, fine detail, and durability. Crafters often decorate them with intricate geometric patterns or images from nature (like whales, birds, or waves), reflecting the Nuu-chah-nulth’s deep connection to the sea and land. Historically, people used these baskets for practical purpose like storing food, carrying items, or even cooking with hot rocks inside them. Today, collectors value them as works of art and cultural heritage.
This little Basket Mini Nootka Style stands just 1 3/8 inches tall with the lid on and 1.5 inches in diameter. It is in excellent condition. One of a Kind!
