Northern Plains Style Moccasins

These Vintage Moccasins—Keyhole Design—highlight classic Northern Plains style. The crafter made them from supple Braintanned Deerskin Leather with traditional soft soles.  They beaded a keyhole design on the vamp using 12/0 seed beads in Greasy Yellow, Light Blue, Navy Blue, and White Center Red. The keyhole design is a classic, traditional pattern.

The moccasins measure approximately 9.5″ long, 3″ wide, and stand 3.75″ tall (women’s size 6). This pair offers a striking blend of age, craftsmanship, and cultural style.

One of a Kind.

Northern Plains moccasins reflect a long tradition of skilled craftsmanship shaped by the region’s terrain and mobile lifestyle. Early makers used a single folded piece of hide to create soft‑sole designs. As horseback travel increased, artisans shifted to two‑piece moccasins with stiff rawhide soles for better durability on the prairie. Makers used hides from buffalo, elk, moose, or deer, choosing smoked or white leather based on the moccasins’ purpose.
