Shoulder Bag Great Lake Style

This Bag- Great Lakes Style showcases beautiful floral and geometric designs done in 11/0 seed beads.  The crafter made the bag from cowhide leather. They beaded the designs on red cotton fabric that they attached to  the shoulder strap and the flap.   They backed the flap with green felt. Plaid flannel fabric reinforces the shoulder strap.  The crafter attached red horsehair tin cone drops to the three pointed tabs at the end of the strap.   Twenty two more tin cone drops hang from the bottom of the bag.

It measures approximately 10 inches wide by 11 inches long.   The strap measures about 4.5 inches wide by 28.5 inches long. The top of the flap shows a small spot where the green felt has rubbed away. This piece is used but remains in very good condition, with no bead loss. You will find it an eye‑catching, collectible example of Great Lakes beadwork.

Great Lakes style beadwork refers to beadwork traditions associated with Indigenous peoples of the Great Lakes and surrounding Woodland regions. It is especially known for its floral motifs, flowing designs, and detailed use of color, often reflecting the natural world.  They added their beadwork to items such as moccasins, bags, bandolier bags, mittens, leggings, belts, and regalia pieces.
