Dress- Child Jingle

Girl’s Jingle Dress

This Child’s Jingle Dress features a patterned green fabric decorated with sequins and glitter designs.  The seamstress used black‑and‑green striped fabric  for the sleeves and skirt. Silk ribbon work in blue, yellow, white, and green accents the top, cuffs, and skirt. Three rows of copper jingle cones hang on the front and back—23 on the front and 27 on the back. The front and the sleeves show a few stains, we are not sure how well they can be removed.  Some of the sequins have come off.

The dress measures approximately 17.5 inches across the sleeves when laid flat.  The cuffs measure 2.25 inches wide. The waist measures 15 inches, the shoulder‑to‑shoulder width is 13 inches, and the neck opening is 7 inches. The overall length is 38 inches, and the bottom hem measures 24 inches across. This dress most closely fits a Child’s Size Medium/Large (approx. 6–8 years).

One of a Kind.

The Jingle Dress tradition began in the early 20th century among Ojibwe communities. Families created these dresses for healing, and dancers wore them in ceremonies meant to restore wellness and balance. Over time, the style spread across Native communities and became a central part of powwow culture. Today, Jingle Dresses continue to represent strength, resilience, and the power of dance‑based healing.
