Star‑Pattern German Silver Armbands

These Handmade Armbands- Star Motif will make a striking addition to your Native American regalia. You will find them appropriate for both Powwows and Living History re‑enactments. The crafter used German Silver and punched the star motif all the way around each band.  You can adjust the fit with  the attached slide clips. Each armband measures approximately 1.25 inches wide by 14 inches long. Sold as a pair.

History of German Silver Armbands

German silver armbands trace their origins to nickel silver, an alloy of copper, nickel, and zinc developed in 18th‑century Europe. Makers valued the alloy for its bright finish and durability. It also accepted stamped and punched designs with clean detail. By the 19th century, German silver appeared in trade goods moving into Indigenous communities across the Great Lakes, Plains, and Southwest.

Native artisans quickly adopted the material. It shaped easily, held patterns well, and offered an affordable alternative to sterling. Makers used it for armbands, brooches,  conchos, and other regalia pieces. These items blended European metallurgy with Indigenous design traditions.

German silver armbands grew popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.  Artists punched stars, crescents, and geometric motifs into the metal to express identity and craftsmanship. Today, German silver armbands remain a staple in powwow regalia and living‑history presentations. They carry forward a long tradition of adaptation, artistry, and cultural expression.
