Hood Beaded Red & Blue

Hood Beaded Red & Blue

Wool Hood Beaded Red & Blue with Fabric Lining

Dress up your dance outfit with this Mic Mac style Hood Beaded Red & Blue. The crafter made this traditional headwear with a combination of bright Red and Blue wool fabric. He used bright yellow ribbon on the edges and the seam between the wool pieces. Both the side and bottom feature beaded designs the crafter made with White Seed Beads.  On the yellow ribbon trim, the crafter attached pairs of Baby Blue Seed beads. He lined the inside with a floral patterned fabric.

Native Americans from the Northeast wear peaked caps or hoods like these.  Crafters often decorate them with beads or ribbonwork, but they can also leave them plain.  This Hood Beaded Red & Blue measures 19.5 inches to the top of the peak and 8.75 inches wide (lying flat).  This Hood is in new condition.  One of a Kind!

Leggins Wool with Bead Strips

Leggins Wool with Bead Strips

Navy Wool Leggins with Imported Beadwork Strips

These Leggins Wool with Bead Strips come completely lined.  The crafter made them with a very dark blue Wool Fabric.  He lined them with a brown cotton fabric.  Deerskin Leather ties measuring 0.5 inches wide hold the sides together.   The crafter covered the edges and cuffs with brown bias tape.  On top of this he added edge beading with White Pony Beads.  On each leg, the crafter attached an imported beadwork strip measuring 25 inches long by 2.5 inches wide.   At the top of each of them, he added a 2 inch beaded rosette with a transparent red Crow Bead in the center.  Deerskin Leather Lacing hangs from the bottom of each Rosette.  The crafter applied more Pony Bead edge beading around each beaded strip.  Half inch wide Deerskin Leather Lacing strips serve as ties at the top.

The leggins measure 33 inches long overall.  The width varies from 13 inches at the top to 12 inches wide at the bottom.  A previous owner wore these leggins.  They do not come with the apron shown in the photo.  You will see signs of wear, small tears and small holes in the wool.  They are in good, wearable condition.    One of a Kind!

Leggins Otoe Style

Leggins Otoe Style

Otoe Style Wool Leggins

Add these classic Leggins Otoe Style to your collection!  The crafter made them with black wool.  Then he or she attached classic Otoe style ribbon applique designs to the front.  Around each ribbon shape, the crafter added two rows of Metal Seed Beads.  Dark Red silk ribbon lines the sides and bottom of each leggin. The crafter lined the underside of the side flaps with  gold colored silk fabric. Blue bias tape ribbons serve as ties at the top of each one.

The Otoe people of the Central Plains developed their signature appliqué designs. This intricate textile art involves sewing fabric pieces onto a larger fabric background to create a design or picture. The designs often incorporate geometric patterns, animals, plants, and other symbolic elements.

These leggins measure 28.5 inches long.  The top measures 11 inches wide (lying flat) and 9.5 inches wide at the ankle.   You will see that these leggins are well worn.  Some of the side ribbon trim has shredded.  Many of the metal beads have rusted.  One of the leggins has two patches on it and a small hole on the back.   You could ‘gently’ wear these leggins, but we recommend treating them as a collectible.  One of a Kind!
