Otoe Style Wool Leggins

Add these classic Leggins Otoe Style to your collection!  The crafter made them with black wool.  Then he or she attached classic Otoe style ribbon applique designs to the front.  Around each ribbon shape, the crafter added two rows of Metal Seed Beads.  Dark Red silk ribbon lines the sides and bottom of each leggin. The crafter lined the underside of the side flaps with  gold colored silk fabric. Blue bias tape ribbons serve as ties at the top of each one.

The Otoe people of the Central Plains developed their signature appliqué designs. This intricate textile art involves sewing fabric pieces onto a larger fabric background to create a design or picture. The designs often incorporate geometric patterns, animals, plants, and other symbolic elements.

These leggins measure 28.5 inches long.  The top measures 11 inches wide (lying flat) and 9.5 inches wide at the ankle.   You will see that these leggins are well worn.  Some of the side ribbon trim has shredded.  Many of the metal beads have rusted.  One of the leggins has two patches on it and a small hole on the back.   You could ‘gently’ wear these leggins, but we recommend treating them as a collectible.  One of a Kind!
