One of a Kind!
The Seminole-style garter and belt originate from the rich tradition of Southeastern Indigenous textile artistry, where artisans use finger weaving, beadwork, and symbolic color choices to shape ceremonial and everyday dress. During the 18th and 19th centuries, Seminole men prominently wore beaded sashes and belts crafted from wool and embellished with chevron patterns and delicate seed beads.
Wearers positioned garters below the knee to secure leggings and enhance the visual rhythm of movement during dances and gatherings. They braided or finger-wove belts to anchor garments and showcase beadwork. Traders introduced glass seed beads, which Seminole artists quickly embraced.
