Wampum Bracelet- 5 row

This five‑row wampum bracelet features white and cobalt blue glass wampum beads. The crafter used hemp lacing to string the rows and braided the hemp ends to form the ties. The beaded section measures 8.5 inches long, and the ties extend an additional 7 inches.

One of a Kind.

A wampum bracelet is a piece of traditional Native American jewelry crafted from wampum beads. Makers string the bracelets with leather, sinew, or plant fibers and often create intricate patterns and designs that highlight their artistry and skill. Native Americans originally shaped beads from the shells of Quahog clams and whelk, and communities across Northeastern North America used these beads to make necklaces, belts, armbands, and clothing decorations. Artisans cut wampum shell into discs and cylindrical, straight‑sided beads about 1/8 inch long and drilled holes through them. When glass wampum beads became available, Native American crafters adopted bead looms and began creating elaborate multi‑row belts and straps.
