Pottery Wedding Vase- Jemez

Add this small Pottery Wedding Vase—Jemez, signed on the bottom Toya Jemez—to your pottery collection. The artist applied Black, White, and Red slip to create the designs and painted the spouts with Red and Black slip.

Several Native American peoples, especially in the Southwest, incorporate wedding vases into marriage ceremonies. One spout represents the husband, the other the wife, while the looped handle symbolizes the unity of marriage. A special beverage fills the vase, and the couple drinks from it. Wedding vases make a meaningful gift for newlyweds.

The inside remains unglazed, preventing it from holding liquids. This Pottery Wedding Vase—Jemez measures 5.5″ tall and 4.5″ wide at its widest point.

One of a kind.

The Toya family from Jemez Pueblo carries a rich tradition of pottery-making. Dominique and Maxine Toya, a mother-daughter duo, create handcrafted pottery using traditional methods without a kiln. Their work features micaceous clay slips and intricate carved designs, blending heritage with innovation.
