Handwoven Navajo Rugs

This vintage  Navajo Rug Pair showcases exceptional handmade craftsmanship. One rug features a striking Eye‑Dazzler pattern woven in gray, cream, black, and red wool.  It measures approximately 18″ x 19″. The second rug presents a bold geometric pattern in tan, brown, cream, and red wool. It measures about 19.5″ x 20″. Together, they form a dynamic pairing that highlights classic Navajo weaving traditions.  You will see that the corner ties remain intact.  We are selling them as a set.

One of a Kind.

The history of a Navajo Rug.

Navajo rugs embody a weaving tradition with deep cultural and historical roots. Their origins lie in early techniques learned from Pueblo communities. Later, Spanish influence introduced Churro sheep, whose long wool became essential to Navajo textile production. Early weavings took the form of blankets and garments, and they were widely valued in intertribal exchange.  As the nineteenth century progressed, trading posts redirected Navajo weaving toward floor rugs for non‑Native markets. This shift encouraged new palettes, patterns, and regional styles while still preserving core Navajo design principles. Over time, distinctive motifs—such as Eye‑Dazzlers, geometric forms, and natural‑wool color schemes—emerged. Today, Navajo rugs remain enduring expressions of artistry and heritage. They reflect a weaving tradition that continues to evolve while honoring its ancestral foundations.
