Handmade Nickel Silver Armbands with Stamped Geometric Designs

These Handmade Armbands—Nickel Silver Stamped— will make a striking addition to your Native American regalia.  The crafter used nickel silver and stamped intricate lines and a diamond geometric design all the way around each band. They also attached a 1.5‑inch round disc featuring the same stamped geometric pattern, creating a cohesive and visually bold set. You can adjust the fit with the attached slide clips.

These armbands will work well for both Powwows and Living History re‑enactments.  Each one measures approximately 1.25 inches wide by 14 inches long. Sold as a pair.

History of Nickel Silver Armbands

Nickel silver armbands trace their origins to an alloy of copper, nickel, and zinc developed in 18th‑century Europe. Makers valued the material for its bright, silver‑like finish, durability, and ability to take stamped and punched designs with clean detail. By the 19th century, nickel silver moved through trade networks into Indigenous communities across the Great Lakes, Plains, and Southwest.

Native artisans quickly adopted the alloy. It shaped easily, held patterns well, and offered an affordable alternative to sterling. Makers used it for armbands, brooches, conchos, and other regalia pieces, blending European metallurgy with Indigenous design traditions.

Nickel silver armbands grew popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Artists punched stars, crescents, and geometric motifs into the metal to express identity and craftsmanship. Today, nickel silver armbands remain a staple in powwow regalia and living‑history presentations. They carry forward a long tradition of adaptation, artistry, and cultural expression.
