This Antique Black Top Hat comes with a 1.5" fabric ribbon around the crown and a cream/ivory silk lining. The hat features a 2" wide brim that curls up on the sides. Grosgrain ribbon covers the edges of the brim as well. The underside of the brim is a black woven fabric.The napped fabric of the hat reminds us of beaver fur, but may be a wool fabric. It is very soft. You will see worn spots on the brim and the top edge of the hat. The inside shows a stamp with Extra Quality Registered Moveo et Proficio (I Proceed and Prosper) KNOX New York. Paul T. Carroll San Francisco – Oakland. Paul T. Carroll was a hat distributor in California around the turn of the 20th century. Other writing appears on the inside of the hat and on the lining.
You will see that the inner lining has separated from the hat and the paper under-lining shows.
The top of the hat itself is crushed. You may be able to ease it back into its original upright shape. The grosgrain ribbon along the edge of the brim has also split in a couple of places.
This Top Hat will make a vintage-looking accessory for your Native American Dance Regalia or an interesting addition to your collection.
The hat measures approximately 5" tall. The top measures 6.5" across and 7.5" from front to back.
The opening for head measures 7.75" in diameter on the longer side and 6.25" on the narrower side. (Size Medium).
