Basket - Colored Ash & Twisted Rush
This handmade basket features brightly colored ash splints. You will find the color on the top and sides faded, but turn it over to see the bright Blue, Green, Yellow, and Pink! The inside also preserves the original colors.The ash splints making up this basket intersperse with twisted rush cordage. The artist dyed some of this twisted rushes green. He or she left the remainder of the twisted rush a natural color.
A collector originally acquired this handmade ash basket from the Scugog Reserve in Canada. Thus, a Native American of Ojibwa descent likely made this basket around 1940.
The Basket remains in very good condition. A few splints are nicked or cracked, but you will hardly notice that. You will find it a great addition to your basket collection!
It measures 2.5" high x 8" in diameter.
