Skookum Doll Six Inch

Skookum Doll  Six Inch

This six inch Skookum Doll is wrapped in a wool blanket and is wearing a string of glass multicolored beads. The doll is wearing an orange dress with a floral print and white moccasins with red and blue paint. A green headband sits on her head and the doll is looking to the right. The Bully Good Skookum label is still on the bottom of the right foot.
Skookum Dolls were made in the early 20th century up to the 1960's by a woman named Mary McAboy in Missoula Montana. While they are not Native made, the name Skookum is a Chinook jargon word meaning strong, powerful or excellent. Skookum dolls do not have arms or hands and are wrapped in a blanket giving them the look of folded arms.
