Beaded Gourd Rattle

This Rattle Gourd Beaded features beautiful Peyote Stitch decorations on the handle and at the top of the rattle.   The crafter made it using a small gourd. They used a piece of a wood branch for the handle. On the handle, the crafter attached Peyote Stitch Tubes with geometric designs. He used 11/0 cut Seed Beads in various shades of Blue, Black, Red, Yellow, Orange, Blue, Light Blue and Wine.  At the top, the crafter attached several yellow horse hairs which extend from a section of the Peyote Stitch beadwork. 5 inches of Twisted  Fringe hangs from the bottom.

This Rattle Gourd Beaded measures 11.5 inches long not including the Twisted Fringe. The beaded sections measure 3 inches long at the bottom, 1 inch just under the gourd and 1 inch long at the top.  One of a Kind!

The dance for which this Rattle was made is called the Gourd Dance. The gourd dance is a Kiowa dance ceremony.
