Vintage Floral Quilled Moccasin

These Moccasin- Floral Quilled feature a floral quillwork design.  The crafter use Braintanned deerskin leather and real sinew to construct them.  She sewed the quillwork directly on the leather. The floral quill palette includes red, pink, natural, blue, purple, and yellow.  Rawhide soles give the pair a firm foundation.

The moccasins date to the 1950s, and the tag reads “Rosebud Sioux Handicrafts,” identifying the maker as Margaret Swift Crocker. These moccasins measure approximately 9.5 inches long and 3 inches wide at the widest point (approx. Women’s  size 8). A few quills have begun to separate, yet the moccasins retain their beauty.
