Beaded Braintanned Bags

This Bag- Beaded Braintanned Pair dates to the 1940s. Each bag features a different beadwork design. Each bag reflects careful bead placement, traditional materials, and the maker’s attention to detail.

The first bag has a butterfly motif on it. The crafter created this design by stitching one bead at a time – a technique that highlights the maker’s precision and patience. On the back they made a geometric design. Red-orange edge beading completes the piece. This bag measures 3 inches by 3.5 inches.

The second bag features a front panel decorated with seed beads in multiple colors and sizes. The crafter added a border of white seed beads. On the back, a handwritten note reads: “Sioux – Cannonball Riv N.D.”, offering valuable historical and geographic context for the piece. The bag measures approximately 4.25 inches by 3.5 inches.
