Quirt- Horse Hair

Add this Quirt- Horse Hair to your collection! This early‑1900s quirt stands as a notable example of traditional horsehair craftsmanship. The maker braided white and black horsehair to form the handle and to cover the main body.  They also dyed portions of the horsehair to create a patterned design. Just below the handle, they attached 2‑inch tufts of white and black horsehair; a few tufts are now missing. For the lash, the maker used 3/8‑inch‑wide saddle‑strap leather.

This piece measures 26.5 inches overall, with an 11‑inch lash, a 12.5‑inch body, and a 4‑inch handle. For its age, the quirt remains in very good condition—most examples from this period have broken handles, but this one has survived remarkably well.

One of a Kind!
