Gorget Set of Two

This Gorget Set of Two is very lightweight.  The crafter made them from aluminum.  He hand stamped the fronts with a design that looks like WWW with an arrow going through it.  One of them also has small arrowheads stamped around the edge.  They each have three hammered arrowhead shaped pendants hanging from the bottom.  They also each have a loop on the top that you can use to string your own Deerskin Leather Lacing, twine or chain. Each one measures 7 inches long x 3.5 inches tall.  The arrowhead shaped pendants hang down another 1.25 inches.  This Gorget Set of Two came from a collection. You will see signs of wear and smudges that you can polish off.  They are in good, wearable condition.

Gorgets

A Gorget is a decorative or protective piece that soldiers historically wore around their necks. It has fascinating variations across cultures and time periods. Originally, gorgets were used as armor to protect the throat area in medieval Europe. Later, they became ceremonial items, often crafted from metal, shell, or bone, and adorned with intricate designs.  Metal Gorgets came as part of European military regalia in the 18th century. In North America, Native American leaders received Gorgets as trade goods. Over time, Metal Gorgets became prized trade items and part of Native American Regalia in the Eastern United States.

In Native American cultures, crafters made gorgets from polished shells or other materials.  Men wore them as ornaments or symbols of status. Some gorgets are known for their beautiful craftsmanship and are often highly sought after by collectors and artisans.  This Gorget Set of Two will make an unusual addition to your collection or a lightweight accessory you can wear at your next event.
