Whimsy Boot Brown Velveteen
Whimsy Boot Brown VelveteenA crafter created this Velveteen Boot Whimsy around 1900. It is a classic example of a Beaded Whimsy tourist souvenir. Native American crafters in the border regions between Canada and the United States at the turn of the 20th century created many of these whimsies for the tourist trade.
This whimsy comes in the shape of boot. The artist beaded the floral design with Transparent Amber, Cheyenne Pink, Clear Green, Yellow, Orange, Red, Green, and White Seed Beads. A pearl shaped bead (it has lost some of its original Gold color) appears in the center of the circular design. Then the crafter edge beaded the Whimsy with Clear Amber beads. The bottom features loops of Clear Amber and Clear Teal Seed Beads. You will also see a few Sequins on it.
The word Caughnawaga appears in Orange and Hematite colored beads on the front. This referred to a Mohawk Nation village in what is now New York state.
The top of this Whimsy has a pouch area with brown fabric and brown velveteen sides. Polished cotton in a faded tan color covers the back.
This Whimsy came from a previous owner, but it remains in good condition. Two of the Beaded loops have broken and the original hanging loop is missing.
This Beaded Whimsy will make a lovely addition to your antique or whimsy collection!
It measures approx 5.75" x 3.5" not including the Bead loops.
One of a kind!
