Rattle Gourd Dance

Rattle Gourd Dance
This Gourd Dance Rattle features beaded decorations on the handle.  The crafter made it using a metal pepper shaker.  He used a wood dowel for the handle.  On the handle he attached beaded tubes with geometric designs.
He used seed beads in Red, Yellow and Navy Blue on a Periwinkle Seed Bead background.  At the top, the crafter attached a 3.5" tuft of black Horsehair extending from the top section of beadwork.
The dance for which this Rattle was made is called the Gourd Dance. The gourd dance is a Kiowa dance ceremony. The dance honors all warriors and veterans.
The Rattle measures  15.5" long overall.  The beadwork sections measure 1.75" long and 0.75" long.
The crafter added 'rattles' to the inside, but you can unscrew the handle from the canister so you can add your own dry corn, beans, stones, or seed beads for sound.
