Iroquois Beaded Bird Whimsy Pincushion

Iroquois Beaded Bird Whimsy Pincushion

Beaded Bird Whimsy

Native Americans who live in the border regions between Canada and the US created Beaded Whimsies as tourist souvenirs.  One of them created this Beaded Bird Whimsy in the early 1900s. This Whimsy is a bird-shaped Pincushion.
The crafter made the body of this Pincushion Whimsy  with polished cotton fabric. The body, wings and tail are beaded with translucent amber color 11/0 seed beads.  Translucent cranberry tubular seed beads form a collar around the neck of the bird.  This collar takes the shape of a diamond pattern .  The eyes are Black Glass Tube Beads.
A 3/4" round Pincushion hangs from the the beak of this Beaded Bird Whimsy.  You can hang the whole Whimsy by the string of blue antique beads.
This Beaded Whimsy is in good condition for its age. It measures approx.  4" long and 3.5" tall.
