Basket- Rectangle Ash

This Antique Basket- Rectangle Ash features hand‑applied designs. The basket maker wove it with ash splints which they dyed yellow and red.  Then the maker hand‑applied floral designs on the ash splints.  The basket stands approximately 5 inches tall, 14 inches long and 12 inches wide.  Handles on either end extend 1.25 inches above the rim, adding  a pleasing silhouette.

Crafted in the early 1900s, the basket shows signs of age, including a few cracked splints, fading of the painted designs, and fading to the yellow and red dye.  The decoration retains its rustic charm and handmade character, making this a unique display piece for collectors of Northeast baskets. The photo captures the designs, red and yellow splints, although it has faded.
