Handwoven Brown River Cane Basket

This attractive Basket- Brown River Cane showcases a classic handwoven design. It reflects the rich tradition of Indigenous basketry in the Southeastern United States.

The basket displays well overall. One area of wear on the interior has worn through the weave and shows on the exterior bottom. A couple of the splints have come apart on the top, but is still in great shape. The wear does not lessen the basket’s visual appeal or historic character. This basket measures 6.5″ tall by 8.5″ wide. A handwritten ” A .49″ appears on the bottom. Its warm brown color highlights the beauty of traditional river cane weaving.

Native artisans have used river cane (Arundinaria gigantea), North America’s only native bamboo, for centuries.
