These Moccasin- Cree Center Seam are high top style.  The crafter made them from Braintanned moosehide leather. The artisan machine and hand-stitched these moccasins. They have a soft sole for comfort and flexibility, making them ideal for ceremonial or display use. The high-top cuff is outlined with trans purple, trans red, trans amber, trans green, and clear seed beads.

Unlined and supple, these moccasins offer a natural feel and traditional construction. They measure approximately 9.5 inches in length, 3.5 inches wide at the broadest point, and stand about 7 inches tall.  They are a classic example of Cree artistry and cultural expression.

Cree artisans craft moccasins to express cultural identity, skill, and connection to the land. They use smoked moosehide or deerskin to create soft soles for quiet movement—ideal for hunting, snowshoeing, and ceremony. Many follow a two-piece design with an apron insert, a style rooted in the Red River region by the early 1800s. Makers may bead floral patterns and stitch porcupine quillwork on them. They pass these techniques from one generation to the next. During the fur trade era, European traders and voyageurs embraced Cree moccasins for their comfort and durability. Today, communities preserve and celebrate them through museum collections and initiatives like the Moccasin Identifier, which affirms treaty relationships and Indigenous presence across Turtle Island.
