Etched Round Nickel Eastern Woodland Style Gorget

Our Gorget Eastern Woodland, made exclusively for us,  features etched circular and fleur-de-lis designs.  The crafter based the design on a historical Native American etched Shell.  This circular Gorget has a slightly concave front. The crafter soldered two rings to the back so you can string in on your leather cord.  It measures 3.5 inches in diameter.  This accessory will make a fine addition to your powwow or living history regalia.

Native Americans of the Northeast wore etched round shells that represented the Moon. The considered circle shapes to be protective from evil spirits.  When trade metal became available, their artists created concave round discs to wear.

Metal Gorgets were originally worn by European military officers in the 18th century. In North America, Europeans gave gorgets to Native American leaders as trade goods. Over time, Metal Gorgets became prized trade items and part of Native American Regalia in the Eastern United States.
