An Iroquois crafter beaded this antique scalloped edge Whimsy Beaded Box using clear, blue, green and red colored 5/0 Pony Beads. You will also see some gray Basket Beads within the design. The crafter added Beaded Looped Tassels with Clear Pony Beads on each corner of the box. This piece was made circa 1900.It is a classic example of the Beaded Whimsy tourist souvenirs. Native American crafters in the border regions between Canada and the United States at the turn of the 20th century created many of these whimsies for the tourist trade.
This box features a raised beadwork design on velveteen fabric. Two sides are blue, two are purple and the top is blue. The inside of the box is lined with silk.
The box measures approx. 3.25" wide and 2" tall.
