This Antique Black Top Hat comes with a grosgrain ribbon around the crown. Inside you will find a leather lining around the bottom and an ivory silk lining. The hat features a short brim that curls up on the sides. The underside of the brim shows an olive green woven fabric.
The napped fabric of the hat reminds us of beaver fur, but may be a wool fabric. It is very soft. You will see wear on the edge of the top and a couple of places on the brim. The inside shows a stamp with a crest and Jones & Co. 15, Frogmore Street Abergavenny, and at Newport.  This business was apparently in Wales. We have not found any further information about this company.  You will see a substantial tear in the silk lining as well as some smaller scratches. Also you will see pencil marks on the silk lining.
A previous owner had this Top Hat, but it remains in very good condition for its age.  This Top Hat will make a vintage-looking accessory for your Native American Dance Regalia or an interesting addition to your collection.
The hat measures 5.75 " tall. The top measures 7" across and 7.5" from front to back. The brim measures up to 1.75" on the ends.
The opening for head measures 7.5" in diameter on the longer side and 6" on the narrower side. (Size Small).
