Quilled Wheel with Drops
This Quilled Wheel with Drops is wrapped with real Porcupine Quills! The craftsman cut out the wheel from rawhide, then wrapped it with yellow, red, and purple porcupine quills. Next, they glued leather to the back of the wheel to cover the ends of the quills. The craftsman wrapped two rawhide laces with white, yellow, red, and purple quills, and attached brown tufts of fur to the ends of each lace. They then backed the laces with deerskin and glued them to the center of the wheel to hang as drops. For a final touch, the craftsman strung a ring top cowrie shell onto leather lace which they also tied to the wheel's center. There are quills missing in some places, but as a whole the quillwork has held up well over time.This wheel is 3 1/4" wide, with the drops it is approximately 15" long.
