He or she skillfully wrapped them around a pair of wood slats that are about 1/4" wide. The slats have one rounded end and one pointed end. Both ends have holes in them you can use to attach them to your project.
Porcupine quillwork is an art form that Native Americans use to decorate accessories like moccasins and bags and birchbark containers. They also wrap them around feather quills, rawhide strips and pipe stems. This quilled slat measures about 11 3/8" long x 1/4" wide. They came from a collection. You will see a couple of small breaks on one of them, otherwise the quillwork is in good condition. One of a Kind!
