Pottery Jar - Black & White Acoma

This large Acoma Pottery jar features intense geometric designs in Black & White. The artist spent a lot of time creating this detailed design. This potter, G.V. signed the bottom with acoma, NM.  He or she did not add a date.
The previous owner took care of this jar, and it remains in very good condition. The bottom shows some wear.  You will see some light markings from handling and use.
We do not believe the artist created this jar with the traditional hand coil technique. You will see an apparent seam on the bottom indicating that the potter joined two pieces of ceramic ware together.
Traditional Acoma pottery comes from the Pueblo in New Mexico. The pottery usually features very thin walls, a desireable characteristic. Most artists create their pottery using hand coiled techniques. They often use Black, White and Red slip colors.
The jar measures 7.25" tall and 7" at its widest point. The top opening measures 4.5" in diameter.
