Pottery Antique Acoma Geometric Design

This antique Acoma pot features geometric designs on it. The potter covered the pot with White slip. He or she added the designs with Black and Red slip.  The potter painted the inside of the top rim with Red slip. Traditional Acoma pottery comes from the Pueblo in New Mexico. The pottery usually features very thin walls, a desireable characteristic. Most artists create their pottery using hand coiled techniques. They often use Black, White and Red slip colors. A previous owner had this Bowl in a collection. You will see some staining/discoloration on the pot.  It looks like someone used this pot as a planter.  This pot also has 2 hairline cracks running down from the rim (see photos).  There is no signature on the bottom.  The bottom is slightly concave, as well. This pot stands 4" high. At its widest point it measures 5.5".  The top opening measures 3.5" in diameter. One of a Kind! Shop for more Pottery!
