Moccasins with Leggins Set
Moccasins with Leggins SetThis Moccasins with Leggins Set will make an amazing addition to any collection! Circa 1940's, the craftsman sewed them in the Plains style with real sinew from Braintanned Deerskin Leather. They used more of the same material to add cuffs, vamps, and laces. These are hard sole moccasins the soles are made with rawhide. They used sinew to lazy stitch geometric beadwork designs with Red, Cobalt, Pony Trader Blue, and White Seed Beads. There has been no major bead loss at all! These moccasins measure 9 3/4" long by 3 3/4" wide at the instep. (Est. Women's size 8/Men's 6 1/2). They stand 4" high with the cuff folded down.
These leggins were made for a woman and measure 19" tall with a 17" circumference at the widest point. They have drawstrings at the top to ensure a secure fit. The craftsman used real sinew to lazy stitch rows of geometric patterns with a combination of round and cut seed beads around the ankles and up the shafts. Colors include Cobalt, Greasy Yellow, Hematite, White Center Red, Pink Center Crystal. and Teal Center Crystal. They also added a row of beveled silver coated glass sequins around the ankles and up the shafts. The beadwork as a whole is in decent shape with minimal bead loss and some chips on the bevel beads.
A previous owner wore these moccasins and leggins. The ties on both remain intact. The moccasins and leggins show soiling and staining with a few holes in some places but remain in good overall condition. A previous owner likely substituted brown shoelaces for the leggins' original drawstrings. Wearing these items is not recommended.
