Beaded Whimsy Pincushion
Beaded Whimsy PincushionThis classic Beaded Whimsy Pincushion comes in a floral shape. The crafter beaded the outer parts with Clear Seed Beads and Clear Basket Beads. He or she used Clear Red, Yellow, and Green Seed Beads and Basket Beads for the small floral designs. Black velveteen fabric makes up the center. The crafted finished the back with a blue cotton sateen and edged it with red binding. A strand of Clear and Clear Red Seed Beads make the hanging loop.
The Pincushion is a classic example of a Beaded Whimsy tourist souvenir. Native American crafters in the border regions between Canada and the United States at the turn of the 20th century created many of these whimsies for the tourist trade.
A previous owner had this pincushion. The beadwork seems to be intact, but you can see that a previous owner used the velveteen to hold pins. You will also see small holes and wear on the back.
The cushion measures 4.5" across. It measures approximately 1" "thick".
