Beaded Strip Hiawatha Belt Design

You can use this Hiawatha Belt Design Beaded Strip in a variety of ways!  The crafter made it with 7 rows of 4 mm long (just 2 mm wide!) Matte Glass Wampum Beads .  He or she beaded a Hiawatha Belt design with White Matte Glass Wampum Beads on a Black background.  The crafter encased the end threads in a strip of Smoke colored Deerskin Leather.
The Hiawatha design comes from a classic Wampum Belt of the Iroquois.  The five main units of the Hiawatha Wampum Belt represent the five Original Nations that comprised the Iroquois Confederacy. From left to right, this design represents the Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga and Seneca. The connecting line is the path of peace. Other Nations are welcome to travel the path of peace and seek shelter under the great tree.
The Leather strips resemble ties, so you could wear this beaded strip as a Hatband or Headband.  As another option, you could attach this strip to an item of clothing or accessory as a decorative element.
The beaded section of this Wampum Belt measures 10.25″ long x 1.5″ wide.  Each Deerskin Leather strip measures approximately 7.5″ long  Overall, the entire piece measures approximately 25.5" long.
We got this beaded strip from a collection. It remains in excellent condition.
