Horn Spoon Beaded Handle
Horn Spoon Beaded Handle
This large Horn Spoon comes with a beaded handle. The crafter created a Deerskin Leather sheath to cover the spoon handle. He used Lazy Stitch to attach Black, White and Turquoise Seed Beads in a simple design. Then he braided Deerskin Leather Lacing with a piece of red wool to make a hanging loop. He strung it through a hole at the end of the handle.Several Native American tribes created horn spoons from Sheep or Elk horn. They removed the outer part of the horn and carved it. Then they softened it in hot water to further modify the shape. Sometimes they decorated them with carvings.
This spoon is for decorative purposes. It remains in excellent condition, but you will see one spot where the beads have come off on the side.
It measures about 12.5" long. The bowl measures approximately 6.5" long x 3.25" wide. The beadwork measures just about 4" long.
