Pottery Wedding Vase
This one of a kind Pottery Wedding Vase comes with a geometric painted design over the glaze. This Wedding Vase measures about 7.25″ tall. The top measures about 5.5″ across at it’s widest point, while the bottom measures just over 1″ across. The insides is not glazed, so it will not hold liquids. A previous owner had this in their collection. It remains in very good condition, there is a small hair line crack at the top and some of the painted design has rubbed off. The signature etched on the bottom is Maria Olivas.
Several Native American peoples, especially in the Southwest, have used Pottery Wedding Vase as part of a marriage ceremony. On a Wedding Vase, one spout represents the husband, the other the wife. The looped handle represents the unity of marriage. A special beverage was added to the vase and the couple drank from it. Wedding Vases make a special gift for a new couple.
