Gourd Painted with Birchbark Cover
Painted Gourd with Quilled Birchbark Cover
Enjoy two forms of Native American art with this Painted Gourd container! Artist Julia Marden painted the gourd with geometric designs in red and black. A light coat of polyurethane gives it a bit of a shine. She signed the bottom JM 2021. Another artist created the accompanying Birchbark cover with three pieces of Birchbark and Sweetgrass. He replicated the design on the gourd with red Porcupine Quills and added a Dark Green quill outline.Native Americans of the Northeast use the quills of the Porcupine to create embroidered floral, animal and geometric designs on Birchbark. Both natural and dyed quills are used to create beautiful decorations. They also harvest and dry variety of gourd shapes and sizes to make art pieces such as bowls, sculpture, and vases. This painted gourd container measures about 3" tall with the cover on. The top measures 3" in diameter. This container came from a collection. You will find it in very good condition. One of a Kind!
