Catlinite, or Pipestone is a natural stone located in mines in the central part of the United States. It attains a deep reddish color after you polish it.  Native Americans use this stone to make pipes, beads and other carved items.

The Catlinite stones we offer in 3 standard sizes and they  vary from 1.25″ – 1.75″ thick.  You will find it easy to carve. You can use standard woodworking tools, including knives and files.

We often will have several other sizes see pull down box for our current stock of these sizes.   Please note block measurement are  approximate.

Standard sizes are:

  • 2″ x 3″
  • 3″ x 4″
  • 4″ x 5″

Please check the stones carefully before you start carving. Breakage due to faults in the stone happen, and are not our responsibility. We will accept returns of uncarved blocks.
