Strap Leather is a robust and heavy Cowhide Leather, prized for its durability and strength. Its firm yet flexible nature makes it a staple in crafting projects that require structural integrity, such as belts, saddlery, and tooling work. Whether you’re shaping intricate leather accessories or constructing functional pieces, Strap Leather provides the resilience and premium quality necessary for lasting craftsmanship. Its versatility ensures it remains an essential material for leatherworkers of all skill levels.  With proper care, Strap Leather will remain durable and maintain its rich texture for years to come.

You can use it to make belts, guitar or banjo straps, Breastplate Strips, Choker Spacers, Moccasin soles and shoulder straps.

We carry four colors:

• TAN – the lightest color
• SADDLE – a dark brown
• WHITE – painted on one side, gray on the other
• BLACK

Straps leather ( Belt Strap) come pre-cut in lengths of 12″, 24″, 36″, 48″ and 60″.  You can choose from seven widths: 0.5″, 1″, 1.5″, 2″ 2.5″, 3″ or 4″.

Standard cowhide belt weight  is  7-8 oz.  See list below for thickness and weights per color.

• TAN leather measures  about 3/16″ thick, the thickest of our strap 7-8 oz
• WHITE is also thick, but not quite as thick as the Tan 6-7 oz  and not as flexible as the other colors.
• SADDLE and BLACK are approx. 1/8″ thick and are somewhat more supple than the Tan. weight is 5-6 oz
