Beaded Pieces of Micmac Maritime Style Hat
Beaded Pieces of Micmac Maritime Style Hat
Chris found these exquisite beaded pieces of a late 19th century beaded hat. The Micmac Indians created beaded hats that they patterned after maritime sailors caps. Unlike those sailor's caps, the Micmac added elaborate beadwork to theirs. These pieces represent 3 of 5 original pieces. Two pieces are missing. We presume someone cut them out to use for another project or perhaps to removed damaged areas. You will see extraordinary antique beadwork. The crafter used 18/0 beads and 14/0 beads to create these bold abstract floral shapes. The colors include White Center Red, Cheyenne Pink, Pony Trader Blue and many clear colors. The artist also used some tiny white glass tube beads. The pieces have lost several beads, especially along the edges where the pieces were cut. The colors remain bright and the beadwork is still a joy to look at. We will send the pieces in a Riker Mount display case. A talented artist may try to re-create the missing pieces to produce a reproduction of what this hat originally looked like. The largest piece measures 10.5" long x 4.5" at its widest point. The side pieces measure 10.75" long x 2.5" at the widest point. One of a Kind! Shop for more Antique Collectibles! This item has sold but we have archived it for reference purposes.
