A crafter created this Beaded Picture Frame Whimsy around 1900. It is a classic example of a Beaded Whimsy tourist souvenir. Native American crafters in the border regions between Canada and the United States at the turn of the 20th century created many of these whimsies for the tourist trade.
This antique whimsy is a very unique shape for a picture frame. The artist chose Clear Seed Beads for most of the raised floral design and on the bottom loops and used gray basket beads. Polished cotton in a reddish color covers the front and silk covers the back and the inside of the pocket. Green fabric covers the edges. In some places you can see the paper used for the design.
This Whimsy came from a previous owner, but it remains in good condition. You will see some bead loss and places where the fabric has torn or worn away. Additionally, one of the hanging loops on the top is broken with some bead loss. This Beaded Whimsy will make an unusual addition to your antique or whimsy collection!

Beaded Boot Pincushion/Whimsy
A crafter created this Pin Cushion Whimsy using Clear Seed Beads and Clear Basket Beads. It is a classic example of the Beaded Whimsy tourist souvenirs. This Whimsy comes in the shape of a ladies’ boot. The front shows a dark red fabric. Crafters often create Whimsies with velveteen, but we can see no nap left on this fabric to suggest it was velveteen. Polished cotton in a tan color makes up the back.
Someone added a braided Wool Yarn loop to the back of this Whimsy. You will see a frayed place on the yarn, so you may not be able to hang it with this yarn. You will see some staining on the back, but the beadwork remains intact.

Antique Beaded Whimsy Bird 1913
Add this Whimsy Bird 1913 to your collection! The crafter made this beaded Whimsy with tan fabric. Then he or she decorated it with Clear and Transparent Green Seed Beads and dark Gray Basket Beads. The crafter added a lattice ‘bib’ of White Seed Beads with a row of sequins to the front. A Blue Seed Bead surrounded by White Seed Beads serve as eyes for the bird. The bird holds two loops of Transparent Green Seed Beads in its mouth. Underneath the tail, the crafter used Clear Seed Beads to write ‘1913’.
The crafter attached three twisted threads to the bird. You can use those to hang it for display. This Whimsy Bird 1913 measures approximately 6 inches long and stands about 4.5 inches tall. Bright Pink Heart Shaped Whimsy Pillow
A crafter beaded this antique Whimsy Heart Shaped Pillow with animals and a botanical design. They chose clear, pink, white, yellow, light purple Pony Beads. You will also see some gray and white Basket Beads along with brass sequins on pink velveteen fabric. The crafter added Beaded Looped Tassels with Clear seed beads and Green, blue, brown, and pinkish red Basket beads. Around the edge of the pillow the crafter used Blue and clear seed beads to make a scalloped patten around the pillow. The crafter also added a handle strap using clear seed beads.

This Whimsy Beaded Star Panel will make a nice addition to your collection. The crafter made this beaded panel on tan and brown fabric. Then he or she created the multi colored bird design with Seed Beads in White, Transparent Amber, Transparent Dark Blue, Greasy Yellow, Mustard, Cheyenne Pink, Green, Transparent Green, Clear and Transparent Red. You also see three larger cut Amber beads. The crafter added edge beading in White around the arms of the star. A piece of green ribbon surrounds the design. On the back, you will find white pellon fabric that is not original to the piece. At the top, a piece of the pellon extends to create a tab for hanging.

Antique Whimsy with ‘Gay Head’ Beaded on it
This charming Whimsy Beaded Canoe Shape will make a unique addition to your collection! The crafter made it with tan fabric in the shape of a canoe. He or she created a three dimensional botanical and geometric designs on both sides using Clear, Pony Trader Blue, White, Mustard, Transparent Red, Transparent Amber seed Beads and Pony Beads. A few Basket Beads remain on one side. Then the crafter outlined three sides of the canoe shape with Clear Pony Beads and beaded the words ‘Gay Head’ on each side. At one end, the crafter attached a strand of multi-colored Seed and Pony Beads. A tag attached to this strand says “Beadwork, old, by the Indians on Gay Head Martha’s Vineyard”. The crafter lined the inside with a different tan colored fabric.
One end of this canoe shape is open while the other remains stitched closed. You will see some discoloration on the fabric. There are several spots where beads and some sequins have fallen off. The canoe measures about 12 inches long x 3.25 inches at the widest points. The bead strand measures about 14 inches long. One of a Kind!

You will see many beads are missing from the edges of the pin cushion itself. Most of the design remains intact but the beads have become very dark. Some of the clear beads are red and yellow. You will also see Green Seed beads in two of the corners. A white paint like substance appears in a few spots on the front. This Floral Whimsy Matchstick Holder was made using Transparent Yellow, Red, Light Purple, Gray, and Clear Pony Beads. You will also find green and brown basket beads along with brass sequins in the design. The crafter beaded two flowers on the two front pockets. The top and bottom are beaded along with beading along the edges. The crafter added Beaded Looped Tassels made with pony and basket beads. The whimsey has a beaded loop on the top to hang it up. Whimsy Beaded Matchbox 1902
This 1902 Beaded Matchbox Whimsy was made using Amber, Blue and Clear Pony Beads. The crafter beaded a raised pictorial design and the year on the front. You will also see some gray and tan Basket Beads along with brass colored sequins in the design. The crafter added Beaded Looped Tassels made with pony and basket beads. The tassels have some bead loss. The whimsey has a threaded loop on the top to hang it up. The red fabric is faded on the front and has worn away only in a few small sections at the bottom where the cardboard backing shows through. The silk fabric on the back of the piece stained a dark brown color.
The 1902 Matchbox Whimsey measures about 6.25″ at the widest section and 8.25″ tall not including the 2″ tassels. Each pocket is 2″ x 1″ at the opening.

A crafter beaded this antique Whimsy Beaded Box around the turn of the 20th cent. He or she used transparent Pony Beads in Red, Green. Blue, Yellow and Clear to create lazy stitch edging. On each panel, the crafter made simple center designs with Clear Pony Beads and Gray Basket Beads. On the bottom you wil see several beaded loops made with Clear Pony Beads.
Each side of the box is covered with either Red or Gray fabric. The crafter lined the inside of the box with blue polished cotton. The Box is intact. You will see insect damage in spots on the fabric on the side panels and minor bead loss. This box measures approximately 2.5″ long x 1.75″ wide x 2.25″ tall not including the beaded loops.

A crafter beaded this antique scalloped edge Pillow Top Whimsy with Flags using clear and red, blue, green and yellow Pony Beads. Vintage Whimsy Pincushion Purses
This Pair of Whimsy Vintage Pincushion Purses, Were made back in the early 1900’s
The crafter made them with blue fabric on the outside and Cream on the inside. One features a circular design of Clear seed beads and Yellow, Orange and green basket beads on the front flat, On the back they also created a circular pattern using clear seed beads and Yellow, green and brown basket beads. The other Features and X pattern in clear seed beads with Green, Orange , and Brown Basket beads. The top opens and has a clasp to close it. The purse’s each measures 3″ long and 2.25″ tall and 1″ wide.
The edges of the pin cushion Purse’s have wear from age. Most of the design remains intact but there are a few beads missing you will see where someone tried to repair them. You will also see that the blue fabric is also deteriorated over the years. A previous owner used this Pin Cushion so you will notice stains, missing beads and wear. Each Purse has a red handle, One of the Purses it is not attached on one end.

Whimsy Lot Vintage
This lot of vintage whimsies includes a canoe, blue strawberry and a small purse.
The canoe is made with red velvet and 10/0 seed beads around the border. The crafter used Yellow and Blue beads to spell out the word Canoe on the side of the piece and they used multi colored beads to make four loops on the bottom. Blue fabric lines the inside of the canoe and a red ribbon makes the hanging loop. The canoe measures 4.5″ long, 2″ tall and 1.5″ at the widest part of the boat.
The crafter made the strawberry with blue and green velvet, dark green 8/0 pony beads around the center and on the hanging loop. In addition, they added three hanging tassels with white and blue seed beads. The strawberry measures 3.5″ tall and 2″ in diameter at the widest part on the top.
The purse is older than the other two items. The crafter made it with yellow fabric on the outside and red the inside. The piece features an abstract floral design of blue, white, yellow green and clear 10/0 seed beads. The top opens and has a clasp to close it. The purse measures 3″ long and 2.25″ tall and 1″ wide.
This Lot of Whimsies remains in very good condition and will make an great addition to your collection!
