Quilled Wapegnaki with Bull Tail Drop

Add this One of a Kind Quilled Wapegnaki to your collection!  The crafter made seven 2.75" long quilled strips with Orange, Red, and Blue Porcupine Quills.  He or she attached these to a 6"  x 1.5" piece of Rawhide, then added Quillwork in the same colors to the front.  Then the crafter backed the Wapegnaki with a white Bull Tail.  Narrow quilled drops with 0.5" Tin cones and red feathers hang from the sides and bottom.   A piece of Deerskin Leather Lacing serves as the tie at the top.  It comes with a tag that says 'Sioux near White River S. Dak. 6.50'.
Wapegnaki is a name for a Plains Indian Hair Ornament.  These Hair Ornaments typically feature a strip of beadwork or quillwork with a length of hair coming from the bottom. They might also have feathers and tassels attached to them.  This Wapegnaki came from a collection.  You will see that some of the Quills are damaged and some are missing from the drops,  but their colors remain bright. Some of the red feathers are also damaged or missing.  Overall, the Wapegnaki measures about 19"' long x 1.75" wide.  It will make an interesting addition to your collection!  One of a Kind!
