Rattle Gourd Blue Peyote Stitch Handle
Rattle Gourd Blue Peyote Stitch Handle
This Gourd Dance Rattle features beautiful Peyote Stitch decorations on the handle. The crafter made it using a real Bell Gourd. He used a wood dowel for the handle. On the handle he attached Peyote Stitch Tubes. He used 11/0 cut beads in Turquoise for the background. For the design he used an assortment of 11/0 Seed Beads including cut Metal Beads, cut Cobalt Blue and Green, and Orange-Yellow, Red, Alabaster and more! The lowest section of Peyote Stitch beadwork is beveled to create a better handhold. 7" of Twisted Braintanned Deerskin Leather Fringe hangs from the bottom. The crafter attached the fringe with a piece of Braintanned Deerskin Leather to which he added some edge beading in Turquoise and Cobalt Blue Seed Beads. 3" of White Horsehair extends from the top section of beaded decoration.
The dance for which this Rattle was made is called the Gourd Dance. The gourd dance is a Kiowa dance ceremony. The dance honors all warriors and veterans.
The Rattle measures 12" long not including the Twisted Fringe or the Horsehair. The Peyote Stitch beadwork sections measure 3.5" long, 1" long and 1" long.
This Rattle comes with 'rattles' and the top section comes off so you can add your own dry corn, beans, stones, or seed beads.
