Quirt Sawtooth Handle
Quirt Sawtooth Handle
Use this Sawtooth Handle Quirt as a Dance Stick at your next Powwow or display it in your home! This wood handled Quirt features a sawtooth edge. The crafter made it from a single piece of wood. He decorated it with 1/4" and 1/2" Brass Tacks. At the top, he attached 23" long Strap Leather pieces embellished with a bundle of Cream colored Deerskin Leather Fringe. For the handle, the crafter created a beaded Strap using Red & White Pony Beads on Cream colored Deerskin Leather. Two fringed Deerskin tabs extend from the ends of the Strap. The crafter painted one side of each of them green.
Quirts are short riding whips found among people who herd cattle or sheep. They usually come with a braided leather lash. The crafter made this Quirt for a Powwow accessory, rather than a ranching tool.
The Quirt measures 19" long, not including the Strap Leather lash. The Beaded Handle measures 2" wide x 16" long. The Fringed Tabs measure about 9" long.
This Quirt came from a collection. It is ready to use or display!
