Quirt Elk Antler
Quirt Elk AntlerThis Elk Antler quirt will make a striking display piece. The crafter used a piece of Elk Antler, Brass Tacks and Cowhide Leather Lacing to create it. He polished the antler smooth. It measures approximately 14" long on the curve.
He braided the dark brown Cowhide Leather Lacing into a 19" long lash. It is well attached to the antler. The crafter added 1/8" Brass Tacks around the cut end. Then he attached several 3/8" Brass Tacks along one side.
The handle end features a beaded wrist strap with 9" of Braintanned Deerskin Leather Lacing. The crafter used green Pigment Paint to color the fringe and the butt end of the Quirt green. The design on the wrist strap includes White, Cobalt Blue, Clear Red, Turquoise, and Yellow Seed Beads on a Leather backing. The wrist strap measures 10" x 1.75".
Quirts are short riding whips found among people who herd cattle or sheep. They usually come with a braided leather lash.
