Pottery Jar – Tarahumara

Pottery Jar - Tarahumara

This Tarahumara pottery jar features a painted spotted snake and several geometric designs. You will find the colors very muted like the potter applied a translucent wash to the whole pot. Tarahumara potters use clay rolled into coils. They wrap the coils around to create the shape of the pottery vessel. Then they smooth out the coils.  They use red ochre to add decorations to the pottery.  They often placed their pots on wood stands.  Thus the bottoms of their pots are rounded. The bowl measures 5.5" tall. The top opening measures 3.75" in diameter.  The widest point measures 5.5" in diameter. One of a Kind! Shop for more Pottery!
